Important Facts About Using Gift Cards
With Christmas but 3 days away now the seemingly perfect gift at this point is a gift card right. Gift cards are pretty much the same thing as cash anyway, aren’t they? After all, allowing the recipient to shop for and choose the gift they desire virtually assures that it will appreciated.
I’m afraid in some cases it’s just not that simple.
In one such case a woman was recently shopping at Macy’s and presented a Macy’s gift card with a Macy’s coupon for 20% off. She was told that she would only receive the 20% discount if she used a Macy’s credit card, not a gift card. Seems rather deceptive but Macy’s explained it away by saying that the coupons were intended as a bonus only for it’s credit card holders.
But the funny part of it is is that the coupon was sent to the home of the woman that attempted to redeem it. A Macy’s spokesman explained that that was a mistake and only Macy’s credit card holders were supposed to get them.
Please be sure that you read the fine print before purchasing a gift card so that the person you give it to doesn’t get caught up in an awkward situation when they use it.
